What’s the problem with conventional pathology workflow? Well, it hasn’t fundamentally changed since the 1800’s meanwhile there have been extraordinary leaps in the technologies used for molecular biology research and diagnostics. As the latter has increasingly become automated, high-throughput and quantitative, histology and pathology have continued to be practiced as more of an art form than a science. Unfortunately, this lack of innovation has led to real-life consequences for patients due to the inherently subjective, qualitative and manual nature of pathology. Additionally, the inaccuracy of current histopathology practices contributes to an annual estimated $28 billion in costs attributed to irreproducible research.
